Interview

Bill opens up about inspirations, fans, and looks.

What do you like most about fans of Tokio Hotel?
"The fact that they are nervous. But for us, we never seem to get never enough of the fans. We want them to scream! And we love a lot of energy that comes through when we're on stage. We would never like to perform to boring people who just want to listen to the song. A concert is really like a party, it must have energy. All this is even more impressive. And the fans come from all over, they continue to support us, they sleeps outside the venue of the concerts ... I love that intensity. "

You write songs when you're on the road?
"Ideas come to me when I travel, sometimes. I believe that inspiration can come from anywhere. Whenever I always have something to write on and my laptop with me. Sometimes we make up some things when we're on the tour bus. For Humanoid (TH album, released in 2009), we preferred to take time in the studio rather than compose on the road. But I think to gather some ideas, travel is a very good thing. "

What signifies the visual identity of the band?
"For us, Tokio Hotel is not a job, it's our life. We have never tried to invent an image or something. We have always been ourselves. I do not care what people think of my hair or my clothes. I think you have to look real, and people always have. (And the visual identity is important for the band), because the music and lyrics are all your ideas and your thoughts, your personality, and your appearance. All these things go together.

Why start making music?
"I always liked to sing and write things. So I started writing songs and put my thoughts on paper. One day, I attended a concert and said," Ok, that's what I do, go on stage and sing to a lot of people." And everybody said, Well, then do it. "I guess nobody believed me, but it was something that I really liked. And I got some good songs with Tom. I love telling that story!"
