TRANSLATION

Tokio Hotel is a German rock band that is successful because of its well accepted appearance & recognition by the world community.

Success

Similar to Scorpion, Ramstein & Helloween, Tokio Hotel is no exception from becoming a successful German rock band on the world music stage. Their name is now as recognized and celebrated as the other rock bands mentioned earlier. The difference is Tokio Hotel comes with their own distinguished music style and identity. If Scorpion comes with a spark of hard rock, Ramstein with industrial rock & Helloween with power metal, Tokio Hotel makes the pop rock with a glam rock image as their identity.

Good luck

Tokio Hotel's success in making a name for themselves in the music industry was not as easy as expected. Before they became well-known, they too were like most rock bands from their country. They had to work very hard to build up a stable fan base and create an influence there. Furthermore, they were also dropped by their initial recording company, Sony Music. Luck was on their side when Universal Music Group signed them as their recording artist.

Formation

The history of Tokio Hotel's formation started around nine years ago when they were spotted by a music producer in Germany during one of their small scaled gigs. After offering them a management contract, he then proceeded to get the members of the band consisting of Tom and Bill Kaulitz, Georg Listing and Gustav Schäfer a recording contract. From then onwards, the band changed their name from Devilish to Tokio Hotel as they are known now in the arena of world music.

Recognition

As long as they've been known as recording artist, Tokio Hotel successfully produced 3 albums, 1 dual version album, 2 EP, 2 live albums & 16 singles. Most of the albums successfully hit millions in sales unit with a platinum status. "Scream" which was released in 2007 is their most successful album. With this album, they also successfully placed their name in the arena of world music and changed their status from a local German band to an international world renowned band.

Certification

Tokio Hotel's story is no longer foreign among rock band music lovers in our country. They are also not exempted from becoming an international band that is admired by many here. Besides encouraging album sales, their presences in this country twice is enough to prove that their existence is well known in our country. According to a survey done by KLiK, many are in fact very interested in the band, especially the youth, particularly with the Kaulitz twins.

Live

Recently, Tokio Hotel returned with a new recording titled "Humanoid City Live". Although just a live album, but response that was received was just the same as their other studio albums. "Humanoid City Live" features Tokio Hotel's best live performance. It is available in DVD & CD format with 19 English songs. Besides an amazing performance, this DVD & CD set also includes backstage recordings & never before seen exclusive photos.

Rock

Since entering the international music market, many are actually still confused about the concept of Tokio Hotel's songs. Although it is stated rock as their main concept, but still many are reviewing & finding the identity to their music. Many music critics worldwide commented that Tokio Hotel appears to have their own uniqueness. Rock concept that is highlighted in their music is beautifully braided with the influence of metal music, electric & classic. It may sound awkward but the projection of their songs are fresh, in the form of rock that sounds like pop & easily acceptable.

Attention

Besides their musical activities, Tokio Hotel's story is actually more focused on the Kaulitz twins. It is said that they get more attention than the other 2 band members. It came to the point where they started to stress out & tried to distant themselves from the public eyes so that they could have some privacy. According to sources, Bill & Tom were constantly attacked by stalkers. As a result of that, they were forced to make the decision to move to LA. "Yes, they will be moving to LA soon. Fanatical interference from stalkers is one of the reasons," the source added.

Reason

Understandably, Bill & Tom had reasons to leave. Besides wanting a more peaceful life, they also want to write music for their latest album. There, they would stay in Beverly Hills with their manager, David Jost. However, they would return to Germany if the need arises. Unlike Bill & Tom, the other 2 members, Georg & Gustav choose to stay on in Germany. Both did not wish to follow the twins because they have girlfriends in Germany.

Bill Kaulitz

Cited as androgynous because he is constantly seen dressed in a combination of masculine & feminine style.
Proposed the name Tokio Hotel for the band as they often visited Tokyo and is fascinated with the hotels there. *
Loves fashion and jackets are his obsession.

* This is wrong. They choose Tokio because it was their dream city to perform in and Hotel because while on tour they are constantly staying in hotels.

Tom Kaulitz

Age: 21
Position: Guitar

10 minutes older than Bill.
Interested in guitars since the age of 7.
Aerosmith is the band that most influenced Tom's musical form.

Georg Listing

Age: 23
Position: Bass

Started playing the bass since he was 13.
His idol is Flea from Red Hot Chilli Pepper.
Oasis is the band that inspires a lot of interest in Georg.

Gustav Schäfer

Lives near the music studio owned by Tokio Hotel.

Q&A with Tom Kaulitz

What would somebody have to give to you, so that you wear Bill’s clothes once?
Well, I can imagine something with Angelina Jolie. No, nonsense. I would never wear Bill’s clothes, and to be honest, I don’t think anyone would like to see me like that.

If you’d have a girlfriend, would you hide that from the press, or would you admit it openly?
But I always talk about my girlfriends. I have one or two now and then. But it doesn't really last longer than one day.

Do your friends and family have nothing to say about you talking about sex all the time, and about the fact that you’re sleeping with groupies?
Why should they? Other parents would like for their children to talk about it. And this way I don’t have to lie.

How can someone provoke you? What gets on your nerves most?
I’m not that easy to provoke. I think that there’s only one person who can really do that. This person is 10 minutes younger than me, and his name starts with B. I can’t say how he sees this.

How many guitars do you have? Do you name them?
I don’t really know how many there are… I think there are about 20 and I don’t give them names. But Georg calls his base “Mr. Sandberg”. It’s his only friend anyway. (He’s crazy)

You said that you and Bill often have the same dreams. Which was the most embarrassing/beautiful/strange dream you ever had?
I think this is the first question I don’t really have an answer for. And that’s because I always forget about what I dream.

What was the most sordid lie you’ve ever invented?
I never lie! I hope everyone knows that!

Do you like to remember about school, about school trips and so on? If so you, what did you especially liked then?
There was only one school trip I went to. I pretended to be sick for the others. I don’t really like to remember about school. I hated it! School trips were a change to the awful everyday school-life. You could have many girlfriends there, that’s the only positive thing I can remember.

Do you have any habits (do you speak while sleeping for example)?
Maybe I do speak while sleeping. I can’t really tell… You should ask the others about it. Otherwise I like leaving things behind in different places, and things which remain there for good.

Is there still a dream you would like to come true or are you perfectly happy?
I’m really happy…Whenever I express some dreams they probably sound stupid, but I wish to be as successful as now for as long as possible, and to see as many countries as possible together with my boys.

What goes to your mind during concerts when you make such grimaces?
Grimaces? I think that, if you play music and you are in your element, you don’t have your face expressions under control. You don’t think of anything… You just play!

Personality: Georg and Tom are more alike when it comes to hitting on girls. He also enjoys showing his body off when on stage and usually strips his shirt off. Georg gets teased a lot by the twins due to his clumsiness. He also likes sleeping naked. He currently has a girlfriend whom he's been with since 2009.

On how he would create a romantic date: I would just try to be who I am and not put on any fancy cloths to impress the girl. I mean obviously I am very happy if a girl dresses up for me but I also don’t want her to pretend to be someone she’s not.

To create a romantic mood, I would take her out to a beautiful restaurant. Well, now that I think about it, I would probably prepare a meal myself - that’s more intimate. It might taste better in a restaurant but my pasta is definitely also worth a try!

Personality: Sensitive, kind, quiet, bitchy (According to the other boys). He prefers to stay in the background. He can get moody and sulky easily. He’s also very impatient. He’s always the first one to get up in the mornings and waits till the rest of the band drag themselves out of bed while he’s already made breakfast and gotten ready. When you first get to know him - you realize that he is such a sweet heart!

Type of girl: The one who will love him the way he is. He currently has a girlfriend since 2010. In early 2015, it was announced that Gustav is married.
