INTERVIEW: Bill Kaulitz "When I write a song, I think of the scenes, stories and costumes for it"

Tokio Hotel Youth

We went to the small German town where Bach devoted his life to create some fantastic pieces of music, Leipzig. They are Tokio Hotel, which showed his youth directly by the charming rock and conquered the world in a few years. They came to Taiwan to promote her new album while Humanoid Hit FM had an interview with Tokio Hotel on the origin of the name of the band, strange things that happened during the world tour, the making of the album and their feelings by writing letters. All this could help you understand more about Tokio Hotel!

Interviewer (B): Tokio Hotel came to
Taiwan to promote, among all the things I saw in Taiwan, do things they have impressed you most?
Tokio Hotel (TH): The fans (the twins said together)! When we got off the airplane, there were many fans waiting at the airport. Her screams made us really happy. Taipei is a beautiful city where we saw many splendid buildings. Georg has taken many photos and hope to find people more charming and more in Taiwan.

B: You may have answered the question a thousand times, but many fans in
Taiwan still want to know the answer. Why did you call the band Tokio Hotel?
TH: I think anyone who has listened to our music know that we were not Tokyo. In fact we have never been in Tokyo, we hope to be able to visit this great city. This is a symbol of us. We chose "TOKYO" due to his pronunciation and his image of a huge city. Furthermore, when we were on tour we always had to live in hotels, then this is the meaning of "Tokio Hotel".

B: Is there anything moving during their shows? Like that 500 000 German fans were singing his songs under the
Eiffel Tower ...
TH: It was an important moment for us. We were very proud to be invited to France and was a golden opportunity. There are many poignant moments then it is difficult to explain. They had fans singing Durch den Monsun out of our hotels in many countries and we were shocked. Too many magic moments as the first few times when we went to Asia and the U.S. and we found our fans. Of course we want to go to Japan to see our fans of there because of our band name.

B: About the fans ...

TH: There are many energetic fans that followed us on the last tour. We see them in the front row at every concert and they kept our car after the concert too. Even camped outside the place of our concerts. However, we are happy about all these things because they act as they live with "Tokio Hotel" then we do not feel alone. Wherever we go we are surrounded by our fans and we share many moments with them. All these are helpful for how they encourage us to continue. We are like a family.

B The new album is different from their past albums and has many sounds and electrical effects. These sounds in a brighter and more cool. "When they felt they needed to do all these changes?

TH: Usually we recorded our album in the studio and we plan never too much about it. We continue our feelings and opinions and we spent much time in the studio to finish recording. Apart from the song titles, we also talked about the name, the cover of the album and video. I write a song, I think of the scenes, stories and costumes for it. So this album allows us to take a step forward because it has more pictures. Of course for the production also have to take a step forward. We have more ideas as the use of different ways and instruments to compose songs so each song can have different versions. Sometimes a song can have up to 5 versions.

B: They began their career when they had 16 years, did that make any change to their lives and friendships? Are some songs from her new album deal with the pain and the desire to be understood ... (MY WORLD BEHIND WALL. HUMANDID, PAIN OF LOVE). Are these their true stories?

TH: Yes I actually wrote those songs because I had altered and strong emotions and feelings. We collect feelings because we do not know when inspiration will come. They can come from anywhere as movies, cities or people around you. These things could not go directly but emotions and feelings actually appeared in our real lives.

B: Some of the concerts of American tour had been canceled because the singer was suffering from a disease in the vocal cords. Can you talk about this experience and how you take care of the voice now?

TH: This is hard to say because I rarely went out during the tour. No drinking beer either. During the tour, I cared a lot and drank tea daily. This is very important to me because you never know if they're safe or not. Everything could happen and is not reliable. I just hope that these things do not go bad again. After this the concerts were all much success and hope to come to Taiwan again!

Postscript

I still remember when they invited the writer to
Hsuan Chuang University to give a discourse on music in 2005, he said "must be accumulated inspirations ...". We always want the inspirations come suddenly and then we can create some amazing stuff naturally. We just have to spend 5 minutes to feel the miracle and we must dance. So far I still think this is my excuse for being lazy.

The talented photographer Nobuyoshi Araki of
Japan once said "If you keep your failure can create some masterpieces."
